2 large yellow or white onions
1 or 2 garlic cloves (garlic lovers: add an extra 1 or 2 cloves!)
    2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
    3 carrots
1 container (10 oz. or so) mushrooms
    1 bunch of celery
    Half a head of cabbage
1 48oz can Low Sodium V8 juice (optional)

Recipe Directions:

Slice or dice onions with garlic, put in a very large pot.

Cut green pepper stem end off, then cut pepper in half to take out the seeds and membrane. Cut the green pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.

Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.

Clean carrots, mushrooms, and celery, cut into bite size pieces and toss them in. Add tomatoes now, too.

Are there really certain foods that can help you lose weight and keep it off? We're not talking about any so-called miracle food that "melts the fat" (does the cabbage soup diet ring any bells?). These are foods that really can help you lose or maintain weight, either by helping you to eat less or to burn more calories -- or, in some cases, maybe even helping to decrease your body fat.
Experts say there are two basic categories of foods that can be considered "keeping it off superfoods" because they fill your tummy without piling on the calories: fruits and vegetables. For example, two whole cups of steamed broccoli packs a measly 87 calories. Or how about two cups of strawberry slices? They'll add only 99 calories. Even a denser vegetable, steamed carrots, has only 140 calories per two cups. And two cups of a denser fruit, apple slices? That's only 130 calories.
If fruits and vegetables are the "keeping-it-off superfood groups," fiber may well be the "keeping-it-off supernutrient." (Incidentally, the two-cup servings of fruits and vegetables mentioned above all contribute from 5 to 9 grams of fiber.)
Protein is another supernutrient. It's becoming more scientifically accepted that protein may help to curb appetite. But whether we need more than 0.4 grams per pound of body weight is still up for debate among many researchers.Cabbage contains sulphoraphane, which has potent anticancer properties. One study of women found that those who ate the most cabbage and its cruciferous cousins, like broccoli and Brussels sprouts, had a 45 percent lower breast cancer risk than women who ate the least.
Cabbage may also help guard against lung cancer. Fermented cabbage, a.k.a. sauerkraut, may have even higher levels of anticancer compounds, a result of the fermentation process. Just beware of sauerkraut’s high sodium content; rinse it before heating.

The cabbage soup diet is a radical weight loss diet designed around heavy consumption of a low-calorie cabbage soup over the time of seven days. It is generally considered a fad diet, in that it is designed for short-term weight-loss and requires no long-term commitment. It has inspired several copy-cats based around similar principles.

The typical claimed intent of the diet is to lose 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of weight in a week, though nutritional experts point out that it is nearly impossible to lose that much fat within a week. This has lent credence to claims that much of the weight lost is water. Many individuals and medical professionals are critical of the diet. Most of the weight lost is water and not fat, and therefore not permanent. The amount of calories per day while on the diet is far lower than what is considered safe. In addition, the recipe for the soup as often given has an extremely high sodium content, usually to make it palatable, and the diet provides practically zero protein for several days at a time. Many people report feeling weak and light-headed during the course of the diet.

On a practical level, the most common forms of the soup recipe have been criticized as being bland, though spicy variations have appeared. Even so, the blandness of the soup means that few manage the entire seven days, and often report feeling nauseous whenever they smell the soup toward the end of the week-long diet. It has also been noted that flatulence is a common side effect of the diet.

 Ingredients

1 head cabbage, chopped
    6 onions, sliced or chopped
    2 green bell peppers, chopped
    1 bunch celery, chopped
1 bunch shallots or 1 bunch green onion, sliced
    2 chicken bouillon cubes
    1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelope onion soup
    1/2 cup balsamic vinegar (optional)
    48 ounces V8 vegetable juice
2 (28 ounce) cans chopped tomatoes
    1 lemon, juice of
    pepper
    6 garlic cloves, crushed
Directions
1.
Place all in large stock pot and bring to a boil.
2
Simmer for 1 hour.
3
Refrigerate all leftovers
Be careful of what you add to this recipe as you may defeat the purpose of it. Carrots have a lot of sugar. 3 pounds of carrots equals the sugar found in a 20 oz can of coke. 2lbs.8oz of carrots equals the amount of sugar in a snickers bar. If you want to add flavour add fresh herbs.
